Oak Lawn Water Negotiations: In conjunction with Mokena, Oak Forest, Orland Park and Tinley Park, the village board approved hiring Holland & Knight for legal services as the municipalities negotiate a new water contract with Oak Lawn for its delivery of Lake Michigan water. “That seems like a lot of money, but when you’re talking about multi-millions it’s a smaller portion," Village Administrator Kurt Carroll said.

The attorneys will sit in on negotiations and review a contract that outlines the amount each municipality will pay for a new water line that will be run out to the south suburbs.

Board Meetings Cut: Pending approval next month, the village board will drop one of its three monthly meetings until further notice. Currently, the board meets the second, third and fourth Mondays of each month, but would now meet only the second and fourth Mondays. Recently, there have been a number of 15- to 30-minute meetings, something Mayor Tim Baldermann attributed to the poor economy. By cutting one meeting, the village won't need to bring in staff and keep the building open an additional night, which will provide some cost savings.

Cable, Internet Contracts Approved: The board OK'd a contract with Andromeda Computing Systems from Lockport as its technology support partner for $15,600 per year. It also approved a 10-year contract with Comcast that allows the company to sell its cable service in the village. Working together with 10 other communities. This doesn't restrict competition, and could also help generate about $19,000 per year for New Lenox Community Television.

Baseball Game Ahead: The Joliet Slammers New Lenox Community Night is at 6:05 p.m. Aug. 13, and Baldermann urged residents to go. Call the village at 815-462-6400 for more information.
