Village Board Agenda: Driveway Parking, Culver's, Route 30

The New Lenox Village Board meets at 7 p.m. the second, third and fourth Monday every month in . Public comment portions are allowed. To see an agenda of tonight's meeting, see the attached PDF underneath the photo in this article.

The biggest issue being discussed tonight is a . At the board's Feb. 14 meeting, trustees approved an ordinance to restrict on-street parking to four hours at a time for vehicles with higher than a B-class license plate.

So, if cars are moving off the streets, where can residents park them? That's what the board hopes to address tonight. This separate ordinance, being discussed at tonight's meeting, would allow trucks to be parked in driveways if they're registered to the homeowner, aren't carrying loads in the back and are less than 90 inches tall.

Also, this is limited to two trucks per driveway, and Mayor Tim Baldermann noted that homeowner associations may be stricter than the village ordinance. Currently, no commercial vehicles are allowed to be parked in driveways.

"We have people who work in the trades, for example, for a living that have got box trucks that they need, that they drive to work," Mayor Tim Baldermann said. "That's how they pay their bills. Personally, I think it's their private property, they can"

On the consent agenda is an item that would push through a couple plans related to the Culver's restaurant that's scheduled to open near Walmart in April.

The board heard the restaurant's plans for signage and a patio at its last meeting, and will likely vote on them tonight. Culver's wants to have an outdoor patio available, but the issue with that is that it would reduce parking too much, village planning and development administrator Robin Ellis said. The restaurant is hoping to work out a shared parking deal with Walmart, though.

Culver's doesn't have a liquor license, and the patio would come with other restrictions. Its hours would be limited from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily in the summer and closing at 10 p.m. otherwise. Live music would not be allowed on the patio.

Finally, officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation will be at the meeting to update the board on preconstruction plans for the .
