The Most Dangerous Intersection in H-F Is?

In attempt to address a slew of traffic complaints, we want to know what you think is the most dangerous intersection in town.

Earlier in the month, Patch published a story about a Flossmoor resident's concerns about speeding on Sterling Avenue. Just the other day, a Patch reader mentioned frustration over the intersection of Highland Avenue and Ridge Road and, before that, another complained about Chayes Court and Governors Highway. Needless to say, there’s a lot of concerns about local traffic, and that makes us curious.

So we want to know, what do you think is the most dangerous intersection in both and ? The results will be presented to both local governments.

I agree with Ryan. I don't understand how it is possible to be at the stop sign on Park right by the viaduct and "know" when it is okay to proceed ahead. You can't see the traffic coming underneath the viaduct at all?? I have had several near misses there myself as it's a short cut to the expressway after dropping off at the train station...but oncoming traffic doesn't stop .....the visibility is IMPOSSIBLE! We can no longer make a left turn right in front of the viaduct for that very reason that we can't see traffic coming south of DIxie before going under viaduct....(there is road closed sign and cones in right hand lane).....

I agree with alot of the comments made regarding the certain intersections in Homewood, especially @ 183rd & Center, I was involved in an accident there years ago & I'm sure there have been plenty more since mine, still nothing is done to change the situation there. And, I agree with Thomahawk regarding Ridge & Center, as I Iive near this area, my suggestion is Homewood police should just park an empty squad car in front of the 911 Call Center just for a day or two, as some of these cars are speeding at least 40 mph or more on this stretch turning off Halsted St. heading west on Ridge. Once these speeders see that squad car around the curve they will slow down or stop taking that route due to the police presence shown. At times, Ridge & Loomis, can be very hard to turn in either directions due to people speeding on Ridge Road. Per the Bike Lanes don't get me started, there is too much congestion on certain roads in Homewood to allow it. The plan should have been thought out better before spending all the money for it. Before you know it someone will sue Homewood due being injured per using the marked Bike lanes in some of these congested traffic areas of Homewood.

I was thinking the same thing re bike lanes and Village liability. At what point does it become the liability of the Village ... hmm. It is entertaining though to see them as they pop up and check out just how ridiculous some of them are...in front of DQ to Dixie they are within the actual driving lane...how is that going to work? I guess the cars need to slow down to the speed of the bikes if you are stuck behind one. LOL

@Tony Dauginas -- You are right, riders have every right to use the road as we drivers do. But the big disconect is that they have to follow the SAME rules as the the drivers do. I too often see riders not stopping at red lights, not stopping at stop signs, and flying past cars at a the stop light just to get in the front. THEY need to follow the rules of the road and if they don't and god forbid one of them gets hit by a car it will always be the drivers fault. BTW the bike lanes and little signs that are now posted look bad.

183rd and Highland has had a lot of bad accidents over the years due to the hill on 183rd, just west of Highland. It's a bad blind spot, especially in the winter when cars going too fast cannot stop in time to prevent a rear-end collision. I've seen it happen too many times.
