The Will County Board could decide next week whether the community youth center can remain open after the village didn't have any objections. In the meantime, a parent meeting is planned to garner support.

Popular youth hangout spot , which closed this summer while dealing with county zoning issues, faces its final test next week when the Will County Board will decide whether to allow it to stay open.

During the New Lenox Village Board meeting Monday, trustees showed support for the youth center.

"(Stinnett) had an idea to do something for the youth in this community, and what you're trying to do for these kids ... you've done an excellent job," Mayor Tim Baldermann said.

Village staff recommended no objection to the special use permit, pending some improvements to the location, including re-striping the parking lot and providing more lighting. The board sided with Stinnett, though, and said additional lighting wasn't necessary.

The Will County Board will decide whether it agrees and vote to grant the special use permit. Stinnett hopes parents, students and other supporters will attend to show the value of the organization in the community. The public hearing is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago St. in Joliet.

The night before that, Stinnett is having a meeting for adults who are interested in getting involved to help The Hub accomplish its mission of providing youth a safe and fun place to go. That meeting is at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at The Hub.
