"It's an area that absolutely needs it," trustee Ray Tuminello said at a previous committee meeting. "There's a lot of people who come over that way who go to the Walmart area now."

Between 500 and 600 feet of sidewalk is needed. The entire project will be paid for using a $300,000 grant the village received.

Nash said he'll bring the contract to the Village Board at its first meeting in April, and then the work could be done in the summer.

The streets committee has previously discussed another possible sidewalk along Cedar Road between Joliet and Illinois highways. It would allow for a sidewalk that would connect part of the south end of town with the Old Plank Bike Trail entrance near .

Nash said there are no updates for that project.

The Route 30 widening project includes a bike path or sidewalk along the entire portion of the road in New Lenox, extending west from Bluestone Bay to Marley Road.
