Ron Sly Retires as Public Works Director, 35 years with the Village

Ron Sly, 54, retires from his position as public works director.

For more than 20 years, Ron Sly has served in the role of public works director.

The 54-year-old Sly officially retired on Oct. 11. He joined the village while he was just a kid in school, said Mayor Tim Baldermann. He came onboard working in the public works department in 1978, records show.

At the Oct. 14 board meeting, Village trustees, the mayor and co-workers wished Sly the best in his retirement.

Sly did not return a call for a statement from Patch. However, he sent an email, announcing his retirement.

"Ron has not only been a longtime resident and longtime employee, he's been very involved in the growth of the community. He really was an integral part of the success we're having now," said Baldermann.

Sly was working at the village when the total number of residents ranged between 6,000 and 7,000. Today, the population stands at about 25,000.

Before heading into an executive session after the regular board meeting, Trustee Annette Bowden said no replacement has yet been named. She said the board is shaping the process of selecting a replacement for Sly.
