New Lenox Village Residents to Get Property Tax Payback

New Lenox residents can get back 60 percent of the village portion of their property tax bill.

New Lenox homeowners can get back 60 percent of the village portion of their property tax bill.

It's the fourth year the village is paying back part of its property tax take, with the percentage going up each year.

The village board passed a resolution establishing the criteria for the tax refund during its meeting Monday night. Among the requirements are occupying a primary residence in the village for the entire last year, completing and returning the application, and providing copies of a valid Illinois driver's license or state identification and a 2012 Will County property tax bill.

Applicants must also have no outstanding village bills. Applications are due by Dec. 16.

"This is your money, we want you to have it," said Mayor Tim Baldermann, who noted that the village has done away with other fees as well.

"People forget," he said. "For years they wanted us to get rid of village stickers. We just got rid of village stickers, and pet tags.

"We really do put people first," the mayor said.
