New Gas Station Opening

Plans for an independently owned gas station, Food & Fuel, have cleared the Village of New Lenox.

The Village of New Lenox is getting a new gas station on the northeast corner of Route 6 and Cedar Road.

Community Development Director Robin Ellis said the village has approved an independent gas station, Food & Fuel, The owner, Len McEnery, is from Orland Park.

Ellis said McEnery is waiting for site plan approval from Will County officials. He is looking to begin construction on the as soon as possible.

Mayor Tim Baldermann is looking forward to having another gas station in town. He said the existing franchise stations over charge motorists.

In May he filed a "price gouging" complaint with Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. He said Madigan's staff told him that the franchises were engaged in free market pricing, which is legal.

The price at the pump at the time was as high as $4.25, which Baldermann described as "price gouging." Prices in New Lenox were as much as 13 cents higher than stations in Mokena and Frankfort.

While the current price per gallon is $3.67, Baldermann believes it's still too high.
