Plans for an independently owned gas station, Food & Fuel, have cleared the Village of New Lenox.

The Village of New Lenox is getting a new gas station on the northeast corner of Route 6 and Cedar Road.

Community Development Director Robin Ellis said the village has approved an independent gas station, Food & Fuel, The owner, Len McEnery, is from Orland Park.

Ellis said McEnery is waiting for site plan approval from Will County officials. He is looking to begin construction on the as soon as possible.

Mayor Tim Baldermann is looking forward to having another gas station in town. He said the existing franchise stations over charge motorists.

In May he filed a "price gouging" complaint with Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. He said Madigan's staff told him that the franchises were engaged in free market pricing, which is legal.

The price at the pump at the time was as high as $4.25, which Baldermann described as "price gouging." Prices in New Lenox were as much as 13 cents higher than stations in Mokena and Frankfort.

While the current price per gallon is $3.67, Baldermann believes it's still too high.

Lenny is actually Bill McEnery's brother. I worked for Gas City for years in management and can tell you that Lenny was much more of a presence then Bill ever was. I can't say who was more in control behind the scenes though. I believe he also owns the Gas & Wash in Mokena and their prices are always even with the rest of the area. I just hope he learned something that his second go around in the business isn't such a failure.

"...their prices are always even with the rest of the area." For God's sake, we don't WANT gas prices that are 'even' with the area. New Lenox is the scene of the highest prices for miles. Even Joliet is 20-30 cents cheaper per gallon. McEnery can take his prices and stuff them them somewhere the gasoline doesn't normally go.

Gregory, are you suggesting that McEnery can take his prices and stuff them in his gashole??? ;0) I had no idea this was the Gas City/Creamery people. WOW, and the Mayor is excited about this? I don't buy gas in New Lenox, and I wish everyone else would take their business out of town also. I live on the south end of town and we have either Speedway or 7-Eleven and they both .... well, lets just leave it at that. I can't see how most residents aren't travelling outside of New Lenox, and could stop and purchase gasoline, unless they are soccer moms who don't ever venture out of town. Wait, they have to venture out of town, cause New Lenox doesn't have anything worth staying IN TOWN for. I was excited to learn of a new gas station .... but it sounds like, from the above comments, that its not new at all!

Gas City owned by McEnery was always higher than other stations in area.

Yeah I remember Gas City gas prices always being higher than other gas prices in the area. They should be cheaper considering they are selling generic gas. We'll see.
