Mokena Could Follow New Lenox in Electricity Aggregation

In a Monday night planning session, village staff and board discussed steps to bid competitively for Mokena's electricity.

During a New Lenox Village Board meeting Monday night, Mayor Tim Baldermann celebrated the village's for residents and said other area municipalities will soon follow in New Lenox's footsteps.

"It was a quick process this year, but I think you're going to see them lining up to do it next April," he said.

It turns out that on the same night, the to ask voters whether the village can seek lower, aggregated electricity prices, according to Mokena Patch.

New Lenox went through that process this April, with about 60 percent of voters favoring the initiative. This year was the first that municipalities could seek low rates in bulk for residents, and 19 communities in northern Illinois did so, with New Lenox and Crest Hill being the only in Will County.
