MFT Funds Pay for 7 miles of Road Improvements in New Lenox

Prepare for plenty of delays this summer in New Lenox. Plenty of road improvement projects are planned for the 2013 construction season.

The Village of New Lenox is undertaking seven miles worth of road improvement projects with this year’s Motor Fuel Tax fund.

Village Engineer Will Nash said PT Ferro Construction Co. was awarded a base bid of $1.09 million for a variety of road improvement projects, including resurfacing, curb and gutter, sidewalk removal and replacement, overlay work and more. Portions of 40 different streets throughout the village are scheduled for work.

The subdivisions scheduled for construction include: Windemere East, Eagle Estates, Cherry Hill Manor, Aerohaven, Fieldstone and Windemere West. In additions, portions of roadway on Gear and Mustangs Streets to Haven Avenue, several spots along Jackson Branch, Vine Street and the S-Curve on Cedar Road at Haven Avenue are planned for improvement projects.

This is the most work that the village has been able to accomplish in a single year, said Nash. The bid was low, which and the projects this year are not as elaborate as some others have been.  Last Year, only 2.5 miles worth of improvement projects were completed, including repairs on Pine Street, Gougar Road at Route 30 and Route 30 at Interstate 80. The village, this year, is spreading out its projects and focusing on neighborhood improvements.

Still, the long-awaited Nelson Road Extension project between Haven Avenue and Illinois Highway is yet in the offing. The easements needed to advance the projects have not yet been secured.
