McDermed, Weigel Lead District 12 County Ballot

Incumbent Tom Weigel and Frankfort Township Clerk Margo McDermed won the Will County District 12 race after all precincts have reported. New Lenox candidates Ray Tuminello and Chris Kosel kept things close.

Area voters elected incumbent and Frankfort Township Clerk to the Will County Board in a tight race Tuesday.

They defeated New Lenox Village Trustee and Lincoln-Way school board member .

"I worked hard and I am so happy that voters responded to what I had to say," said McDermed, a Mokena resident.

She said her biggest priorities will be to keep a balanced budget and find ways to bring in new jobs to the county.

Tuminello said he knew he had an uphill battle from the start, going against two longtime local politicians in Weigel and McDermed as well as the name recognition of Kosel, who is the son of state Rep. Renee Kosel (R-New Lenox).

"I knew it going in that this was going to be the case, that I would win in New Lenox," he said. "I tried (in Mokena). We did mailings, we walked, we knocked, we did so much and it just wasn't to be tonight."

Despite the loss, Tuminello is excited to get back to work with the Village of New Lenox.

"I'm looking forward to really hunkering down and geting into the road projects and other things we've got going on," he said. "I get to continue to do what I love, and that's represent the people of New Lenox.
