Manhattan Approves Video Gambling After New Lenox Denies It

According to the Sun-Times, the Manhattan Village Board voted Tuesday to approve video gambling machines in local establishments. Will you go to those places because you can't do it in New Lenox?

The Manhattan Village Board voted Tuesday to approve video gambling, going against the decision New Lenox's board made a few weeks ago.

According to the Sun-Times, there was only one dissenting vote. Read the full coverage here. The New Lenox Village Board voted 3-2 to opt out of allowing the machines, with one member abstaining and one member absent.

Other area towns have been split on the issue. Joliet also approved use of the machines, but Homer Glen, Orland Park and Frankfort have opposed it.

That being said, will you travel to a nearby establishment just to use the machines?

According to previous Patch articles, only establishments with a "pour" liquor license are eligible (they must serve alcohol for on-site consumption), and there could be a maximum of five machines per establishment. The maximum bet is $2 per play, but the number of plays isn't restricted.

The Sun-Times reported that there are three establishments in Manhattan with a pour license. There were more in New Lenox, but some people argued that only four establishments would truly take advantage of it: , Pit Stop and the two local veterans organizations, the VFW Post 9545 and American Legion Post 1977.
