Funeral for Fallen Homer Glen Soldier Will Pass By New Lenox

Mayor Baldermann anticipates community members to turn out and show support for Pfc. Michael Olivieri, who was killed in Iraq.

When the funeral procession for Pfc. Michael Olivieri, the fallen soldier from Homer Glen, passes by New Lenox on Thursday, Mayor Tim Baldermann anticipates a strong turnout from residents wishing to pay their respects.

"We want to send our sympathies," he said Monday during the Village Board meeting. "This is an incredible town that's extremely patriotic."

Olivieri, 26, died June 6 in Baghdad after enemies attacked his unit with indirect fire, according to militarytimes.com. His funeral procession leaves Modell Funeral Home, 12641 W. 143rd St. in Homer Glen, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
