Fresh Development for New Lenox Town Center

New stores are headed for New Lenox Town Center near Walmart.

The Village Board Monday approved the first reading on a handful of special use permits to accommodate at least four or five new stores in the New Lenox Town Center anchored by Walmart.

The development in the 500 block of E. Route 30 continues to attract new businesses to town, said Mayor Tim Baldermann. Pending the signing of final contracts, village officials would not reveal the names of the incoming businesses.

However, trustees authorized a special use permit to enable future tenants room for truck docks for three small businesses. Expansion of the retail area is expected in the out-lot near Culver's as well as the in-line stores alongside the Walmart anchor.

Baldermann said, "Its great news that despite the recession, we continue to see growth.  It's good for our tax base and for jobs."

In other business, trustees authorized an ordinance to allow fraternal organizations, specifically the VFW and American Legion, to operate video gaming equipment. They also approved two temporary liquor licenses.
