Frankfort Mayor: Village 'Very Fortunate' to Make it Through Tornado

Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland spoke of how lucky the town was to come through Sunday's storm relatively unscathed.

Trees fell and homes were damaged, but compared to other communities Frankfort was lucky.

"We've all seen what these storms caused before they reached the Village of Frankfort," Holland said of the damage suffered by Washington, Coal City, Diamond and Green Garden.

A tornado sighting was reported about eight miles south of Frankfort.

"Here in Frankfort we were very fortunate," Holland said. "The damage was limited in our community."

Holland spoke of the storm during Monday night's village board meeting. At the same meeting, village Administrator Jerry Ducay and Police Chief John Burica were complimented for their work Sunday.

While there were no reports of injury, some homes, particularly in Prestwick subdivision, were damaged by falling trees, Holland said.

"But they can be repaired," he said. "And they will be repaired."
