A big part of New Lenox is the volunteer spirit of hard-working community members. This story features a list of the top stories that demonstrated without a doubt the compassionate response, outreach and fun-loving efforts made by residents, village officials, police, firefighters, churches, schools, children and non-profit organizations. 

By no means is this list of stories complete. However, it does touch the surface and reflects the heart of the community.   

Sharefest was one campaign that offered a variety of outreach opportunities. For this mammoth campaign in 2011, New Lenox earned in November the Governor's Hometown Award.
