Crete Woman Running for Will County Treasurer

Democrat Laurie Summers announced Wednesday that she plans to run in the March primary.

Laurie Summers has announced plans to run for Will County treasurer in the March Democratic primary. The job is currently held by Republican Steve Weber. Here's a news release announcing her campaign:

Today, Laurie Summers (D-Crete) begins her campaign for Will County Treasurer, excited about the possibilities for the office. A life-long resident of Will County, she has been an active and devoted Will County resident. Laurie has been married for 25 years, and has three children and two grandchildren. Whether it is through volunteerism or her work as a Registered Nurse, Laurie believes in a life of service that puts the needs of her community first.

From her professional and civic experience, she has a proven track record of bringing government, business, non-profit and community stakeholders together. She knows that it will take 'hands-on' manager to bring the Treasurer's office to the next level.

Passionate about the people of Will County, Laurie said, “My candidacy and the policies I will endorse are a direct reflection of my respect for the hard earned dollars that taxpayers entrust with the Treasurer's office. As your County Treasurer, I will facilitate greater responsiveness, citizen inclusion, transparency and fiscal responsibility in fulfilling the duties of the office.”

The Democratic primary for Treasurer will be held March 18, 2014, with the general election following on November 4, 2014.
