Cleanliness Complaints Delay Action on New Providence Athletic Field

The mayor advised trustees to hold off on a final approval decision until they hear back from residents who previously complained of trash and brush at the Gougar Rd. and Ferro Dr. location.

A new practice field and temporary parking lot at Gougar Rd. and Ferro Dr. may be on the horizon for Providence High School this fall.

Trustees agreed during an April 3 meeting to waive multiple fees associated with the project, reports the Chicago Tribune. Future plans call for an additional athletic field, permanent parking lot and a one-mile track outlining the property.

There’s one obstacle, however: trash.

Prior to Providence’s acquisition of the property, New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann said he's heard complaints of “garbage and brush” at the location. He advised village staff to contact those with grievances before trustees consider final approval of the plan.
