Water Ban: South Suburbs Prohibit Outdoor Sprinkling
Don't water those lawns! Until further notice, Mokena, New Lenox and Tinley Park have banned outdoor sprinkling.
Municipalities in Chicago's south suburbs are implementing full bans on outdoor sprinkling until further notice.
The villages of , and have announced emergency bans of all outdoor sprinkling, effective immediately, according to the Mokena and Tinley Park websites.
According to the Village of Mokena website, the ban is "required at this time in order to restore reserves to levels necessary to respond to potential emergencies such as fires and water main breaks."

"Your cooperation is essential," the website states.
The Tinley Park website's home page states that outdoor sprinkling at any time is prohibited.

Last night, Oak Lawn Patch reported a . Oak Lawn purchases Lake Michigan water from the City of Chicago and sells it to a dozen municipal customers including Orland Park, Orland Hills, Oak Forest, Mokena, Tinley Park, the Paloses, Chicago Ridge, Matteson and New Lenox.
As of 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the websites for other municipalities did not indicate whether a full ban would take place. Previously, these towns along the .
