Used Forklift Fraud Scheme Lands Mokena Man 3 Years

Mokena resident Bill Marr Jr. defrauded the former Palos Bank and Trust over $300,000—which he now has to pay back, according to the Sun-Times Media.

A Mokena man found guilty of wire fraud in March of 2012 was recently sentenced, more than a year later, to three years in federal prison, the Sun-Times Media reports.

From 2001 to 2003, Marr used his Oak Forest business, Equipment Source USA, to run a used forklift scheme in which he shorted the now obsolete Palos Bank and Trust over $300,000. He was able to do so by selling the forklifts and collecting the credit payments without delivering the product. When customers complained, the bank refunded their money, with the expectation that Marr pay back his earnings for failing to live up to his end of the deal.

That never happened.

It will have to soon, though, as Marr's sentence also includes an order to pay back the $328,000.
