Two Escape Alive From New Lenox Inferno

The Friday night blaze claimed a New Lenox farmhouse but two homeowners made it out with their lives.

Two residents managed to escape Friday night's fire on Laraway Road with their lives.

The blaze near 120th Avenue started about 10 p.m. When firefighters got to the scene, "the two story, wood-framed home was fully involved," the New Lenox Fire Protection District said.

"The two homeowners were inside their home when the fire broke out but were able to escape without injuries," according to the fire protection district.

"The fire was driven by the wind causing the house to be a total loss," the district said.

Firefighters "remained on the scene until approximately 2:30 a.m.," according to the district. "At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation."
