Terrier Hurt by Pit Bull in 'Vicious' Attack

A New Lenox woman who owns a 3-year-old pit bull rescue was cited after an attack on July 29, police said.

A New Lenox woman was cited after her pit bull bit another dog on Old Plank Trail last week.

The 48-year-old owner of a white pit bull was cited for failing to control the canine when it bit a black and white terrier mix on July 29, Will County Forest Preserve police said.

The terrier was bit on the shoulder, head, neck and back but did not require hospitalization. A veterinarian treated the seven puncture wounds without stitches or surgery.

The incident happened on Old Plank Trail near Lake Street at about 7:15 p.m., police said. Will County Forest Preserve police received the call at about 7:26 p.m. and arrived at about 7:50 p.m. The owner apologized repeatedly for her dog, which is a 3-year-old rescue.

In an email to Patch, the owner of the 8-year-old terrier named Tina said the pit bull got away from its owner and "viciously attacked" her dog. The terrier owner, who is from New Lenox, also posted an opinion on the New Lenox Patch Board that warns other people about walking down the trail.

Forest preserve police said they informed Will County Animal Control about the incident. However, staff at the animal control office, which investigates animal attacks, told Patch on Monday that they had not received information about the attack.
