South Suburban DUI Arrests, Aug. 11

This week's big list of Southland DUI arrests. They drank. They drove. They got busted.

PALOS HEIGHTS

July 24: Mary C. Byrne, 22, of the 6800 block of West Highland, Palos Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and speeding, according to a Palos Heights police report.

Byrne was stopped at about 2:44 a.m. on July 24 in the 13200 block of South Harlem Avenue, the report states. Police said they stopped her for speeding. While speaking with Byrne, an officer noticed signs that the she had been drinking, police said. After failing tests for sobriety, she was arrested booked. 

Bail was set at $3,000 for Bryne. She is due on Sept. 13 in Bridgeview court.

July 20: A Bridgeview man was accused of drunken driving after Palos Heights police stopped his car for a lane violation. 

Kenneth Hantosh, 57, of the 8800 block of South Harlem Avenue, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, driving without insurance and improper lane use, according to a report. An officer saw a vehicle make a lane violation at about 2:38 p.m. in the 12000 block of Harlem Avenue, the report states. The cop believed the driver had been drinking alcohol after speaking with him. The driver, Hantosh, was arrested after taking tests for intoxication, according to the report. He was booked and released on a $1,000 personal bond.

Hantosh is due on Aug. 20 in Bridgeview court.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS

July 28: Francisco Hernandez, 26, of the 300 block of South River Street, Montgomery, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, driving with a revoked license and speeding, according to a Chicago Heights police report. 

Hernandez was stopped at about at about 8:32 a.m. near the intersection of Route 30 and Prairie Avenue for traveling 61 mph in a 35 mph zone, the report states. He told police that his license was revoked. Police said Hernandez spoke with slurred speech and smelled like alcohol. He was arrested after performing tests for intoxication.

Hernandez is due on Sept. 17 in Markham court.

July 27: Timothy R. McCormick, 21, of the 100 block of West 29th Place, South Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and improper lane use, according to a report. Cops stopped McCormick at about 4:06 a.m. near the intersection of State Street and 14th Street after watching him cross the road lines twice without signaling. Police said he had a smell of alcohol on his breath when he spoke. He took field sobriety tests and a breath test, which resulted in a 0.107 BAL. 

ORLAND PARK

July 26: Jennifer L. Mozwecz, 30, of the 9200 block of Cliffside Lane, Orland Park, was charged driving under the influence and improper lane use, according to an Orland Park police report. Cops were called to the area of 147th Street and LaGrange Road to investigate a reckless driver. An officer spotted a black Nissan Sentra stopped at a red light at 151st Street and LaGrange Road. That same officer also watched as it drove onto the curb while trying to make a turn. During the traffic stop, police noticed the driver, Mozwecz, had a smell of alcohol coming from her mouth. She refused to take tests for intoxication and was arrested. She also did not take a breath test. 

July 24: Sabrina M. Rivera, 28, of the 9100 block of Carlisle Lane, Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding, failing to signal, improper lane use and driving without a license, according to a report. Police spotted a car driven by Rivera that was traveling 50 mph in a 35 mph zone and performed a traffic stop. When asked by police if she was aware why she was stopped, Rivera reportedly stared blankly at the officer, batted her eyes and said "Hi." The cop described the driver as being "confused as carefree" during the stop. She was arrested after performing field sobriety tests. She also refused to take a breath test.

Rivera is due on Sept. 3 in Bridgeview court.

OAK LAWN

July 7: An Oak Lawn woman was cited on multiple charges after the car she was driving plowed into a parked truck, reports said.

Carlena Williams, 19, whose last known address is the 4800 block of West 91st Street, was charged with underage drinking, DUI, obstructing ID and failure to reduce speed. A passenger in another car, Jessica Gonzalez, 20, of Burbank, was also charged with underage drinking.

Both women allegedly told police they had been drinking at Jack Desmonds Irish Pub in Chicago Ridge. Around 3 a.m., Oak Lawn Police responded to a hit and run accident in the 5400 block of West 99th Street. When officers arrived, they observed heavy side damage on the truck and a woman, identified as Williams, walking away from the scene on 99th Street, reports said.

Williams had a court hearing scheduled for July 25.
