Theft in a Church Parking Lot

A New Lenox couple reported a wallet and purse stolen from their car parked behind the United Methodist Church, 10900 LaPorte Rd,, according to Mokena police. The caller reported seeing a man get out of an older model red car, smash a window and flee the scene when the man noticed the caller.

The caller and the couple saw the car speed westbound down LaPorte Road. The couple reported credit cards, debit cards, drivers' licenses and a cell phone as stolen. Later, police found that the couple's credit cards were used to purchase unknown amounts from gas stations in Olympia Fields, Matteson and Chicago Heights. There are no suspects at this time.

The man said he was woken up at about 3 a.m. when he heard the screen door in the kitchen shut. He went to investigate and found nothing, but 15 minutes later he heard the door shut again. It's possible the burglar was hiding in the home the first time the man investigated, and the second time the resident responded to the door shutting he found that four laptop computers were missing. One was a Samsung, in the kitchen, and the three others were Dells and were in other rooms.

The value of the computers is unknown, and the sheriff's department is investigating the incident.
