Sheriff's Blotter: Beer and Remote Control Cars Stolen From Garage

Vending Machine Theft

Someone broke into a vending machine outside of Smiths Garden Center, in the 2600 block of East Route 30, and stole the money inside. A crowbar was used to pry open the machine. At the time of the report it was unknown how much money was taken.

Car Accident

Amanda L. Rottmann, 19, of the 100 block of Fir Drive in New Lenox, was cited for the failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said Rottmann rear-ended a car heading eastbound on Francis Road toward Parker Road. The car in front put on its turn signal and slowed down, and Rottmann said she didn't have time to react. The other driver was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and treated for bumps and bruises.

Beer, Run

Someone stole numerous items from a detached garage in the 2700 block of East Route 30, including a 12-pack of beer, two remote control cars, a gas-powered blower, a spray paint gun, a car polisher, a floor jack, a leaf blower and an air compressor.
