UPDATE: I-80 at Briggs Now Open

Authorities warn traffic is heavy and slow on westbound Interstate 80 near Briggs Street after a serious accident involving semi-trucks.

Illinois State Police has advised that I-80 westbound is now open to traffic, according to information from the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Vehicles are being removed from the scene after an accident  involving semi-trucks shut down the area of westbound I-80 and Briggs Street early Tuesday afternoon. 

Traffic remains heavy and slow at this time, authorities said.

The sheriff's office assisted state police with investigation of the accident.
