Pretrial Date Set for Man Accused of Township Homicide

Rodney Julun, of Chicago, is charged with the June slaying of Dwight Jones, a 59-year-old New Lenox Township man. This week, preliminary hearings were held for Julun and two men charged with the burglary of Jones' home.

The men charged with the murder and burglary of a New Lenox Township resident were given pretrial dates this week, and members of the victim's family said they plan to be present during all steps along the way.

Rodney A. Julun, 22, of Chicago, is charged with the last month on the 13000 block of 184th Place in New Lenox Township.

Julun is , one count of home invasion, three counts of residential burglary, one count of robbery and one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle. His bail was set at $5 million.

"We the family are committed to being represented at every phase of this process," Jones' cousin Gail Page said. "We appreciate so much the work that the police department put in. We want justice done."

Entering a plea of not guilty, Julun's pretrial court date was set for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16.

During the investigation, Will County Sheriff's police located two other people who police say had knowledge of the homicide: John H. White, 20, and David D. Reed, 23, both of Chicago. Police said Julun  contacted Reed and White, and over the next two days they proceeded to steal numerous items, including Jones’ car, electronics, cash and jewelry.

Reed and White, both charged with residential burglary, had their preliminary hearings Tuesday and were given pretrial dates at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15.
