Police Recover Gun Stolen From New Lenox Shop Following Car Chase

Two Joliet men fled police in a car Thursday in Shorewood and dumped two guns out of the window, one of which was stolen from Downrange Sports gun shop in New Lenox last month.

Following a car chase, Shorewood police have recovered one of the 15 guns stolen from in New Lenox last month.

Two Joliet men—David Magana, 21, and Eduardo Almazan, 19—were driving through  Thursday afternoon when an officer tried to pull them over for a seat belt violation, police said. But instead of stopping, the Chevy Impala got on Interstate 55 and sped south.

Police said the men tossed a pair of guns out of the car, one of which in New Lenox last month, police said. New Lenox police could not confirm Saturday whether Almazan or Magana will be charged in connection with the gun shop burglary or how they came to possess the gun.

Downrange was burglarized twice, with at least 10 guns stolen the first time and .

Shorewood and Joliet officers teamed to raid a house on Joliet's east side Friday night and took into custody both the driver from Thursday's flight as well as a passenger who was along for the ride, police said.

Magana, the driver, was charged with fleeing police, and his passenger, Almazan, was picked up on a warrant for possession of drug equipment. Both men were taken to Will County Jail, where they remained in custody Saturday.

broke off the chase Thursday for safety reasons at Interstate 80, but the officer chasing the Impala reportedly identified Magana and Almazan through the vehicle's plate number and the men's physical appearance.

The Joliet and Shorewood officers apprehended the two men at Almazan's house. During the search of his residence they reportedly found and confiscated marijuana and drug equipment. Police also seized a .22-caliber revolver.
