Police Blotter: 250 Grams of Weed, 2 DUI Arrests

WEDNESDAY, MAY 30

250 Grams of Weed

Charles Melvin, 34, of Joliet, was charged with possession of marijuana, a controlled substance and drug equipment. Police saw Melvin "looking suspicious" in the parking lot of Laraway Lanes, at the corner of Nelson and Laraway roads in New Lenox.

According to police, Melvin was walking slowly through the lot and looking at cars at 10:16 p.m. Police searched him and found he was in possession of 250 grams of marijuana, or about half a pound. He also had five pills of Clonazepam, which is often used to treat panic disorders.

Melvin was taken to Will County Jail, where he posted bond and was released. 

DUI Charge

Robert Edyburn, 33, of Berwyn, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane use after New Lenox police stopped him in the 300 block of Heartland Drive at 11:19 p.m.

DUI, Drug Possession

William Quackenbush, 46, of the 200 block of Pacific Street in Frankfort, was stopped by police after they say he ran a red light at Laraway Road and Calistoga Drive in New Lenox at about 4:30 p.m. Police questioned him and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of marijuana.
