I'm pretty sure changing immigration policy won't quell retail thefts.

Ben, it won't end them, but it sure would cut down on them. I haven't been able to find the statistics in Illinois, but I know that in California about 40% of Federally incarcerated criminals are illegal immigrants. I don't think they keep records about legal immigrant felons. You can't deny that crimes commited by immigrants, especially illegals, are not VERY disproportionately high. Just sit in the courthouse at 26th and California sometime if you don't believe it. Many good people immigrate here and prove themselves assets to our communities. The problem is the substantial numbers who come here to break the law and hurt us and the fact that our immigration policy and enforcement neither keeps them out nor deports them when they do crimes. By the way, I suspect that the "Kryzsztof Pomorski, 26, of the 13600 block of Meath Circle in Homer Glen" had his origin in some nation other than the US. It's not a matter of skin color. It's a matter of failed Federal immigration policy that puts "rights" of foreigners to enjoy our country ahead of citizens safety and property rights that's putting us at risk.

Whether it would cut them down or not, it sounds as though you assume these people are illegal immigrants because they don't have Anglo-sounding names.
