New Lenox Teen Stays in Jail on $10,000 Bond For Allegedly Threatening Lincoln-Way West's Principal

Lincoln-Way West student Logan Bowman wanted his bond reduced but the judge didn't go along with it.

A New Lenox teen locked up in the Will County jail for allegedly threatening the Lincoln-Way West High School principal was denied in his bid to get out of jail on a reduced bond.

Logan Bowman, a 17-year-old Lincoln-Way West High School student, has been in custody at the adult detention facility since Friday. On Tuesday, his attorney argued for a lower bond so his family could get him out. Bowman needs to post $1,000 of the $10,000 bond for his release.

Assistant State's Attorney Sarah Romero objected to reducing Bowman's bond and pointed out that it was set by a judge in weekend court.

"Just because the defendant doesn't like the bail doesn't mean they get a second bite at the people," Romero said.

Will County Judge Dave Carlson ruled there was no change in Bowman's circumstances and that the bond will stand.

Romero told Judge Carlson that Bowman threatened Lincoln-Way West Principal Monica Schmitt after his younger brother got into a fight at the school.

Bowman was escorted from the area of the fight, Romero said, but returned and told Schmitt, "You all think this is a f---ing joke. Wait till I come back with my nine."

Bowman's attorney, Eric Berg, told Judge Carlson that he was informed by Bowman's father that the family does not have any firearms in their residence.

Berg also said he did not know which criminal history was provided in weekend court, but the one he received from prosecutors included numerous "felonies (Bowman) could not have committed." Berg said the criminal history indicated Bowman had been locked up in the "Department of Corrections for several years," which is not true.

Berg did note that Bowman is on juvenile probation but said he was unsure why.

Judge Carlson said the $10,000 bond, of which Bowman needs 10 percent to get out of jail, "is not an inordinate or unreasonable amount" for the felony charge.

In the event Bowman does get the money together and is released from from custody, Carlson ordered him to stay away from both Schmitt and the high school.
