New Lenox Resident's Social Security Number Stolen, Used to Get Unemployment

An identity thief used a New Lenox resident's social security number to go on unemployment.

Police learned of the racket about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when an "officer was dispatched to the station reference a report of identity theft," police said.

"The complainant advised that an unknown person attempted to get unemployment benefits using the complainant’s social security number," police said.

The matter was forwarded to investigators.
