New Lenox Fraught With Fraud: Cops

The last two weeks have been filled with fraud in New Lenox.

The New Lenox police handled numerous complaints of fraud in the last two weeks.

On Halloween and the following day, residents on County Creek Drive and South Prairie Road made reports of scammers fraudulently cashing checks and making unauthorized withdrawals from a checking account.

Then, on Nov. 4, a Markev Lane resident reportedly told police "an unknown person wrote two fraudulent checks from his banking account for approximately $1,800."

That same day, an Andrea Drive resident told an officer "an unknown person used her debit card to make (an) unauthorized transaction worth approximately $400," police said.

Minutes after the Andrea Drive complaint was made, an "officer was dispatched to the 2100 block of Digby and the 3600 block of Wimborne reference a complaint of fraud," police said. "The complainants advised that they had given a down payment to a subject for repairs to be made to their roof. They later found that the subject did not work for the company that was represented and he had cashed their down payment checks."

Two days later, an "officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Churchill reference a complaint of fraud," police said. "The complainant advised that an unknown person used her debit card to make unauthorized transaction worth approximately $700."

Things were quiet on the fraud front until Saturday when an officer was sent to Northwind Drive to check out yet another case.

"The complainant advised that an unknown person created fraudulent checks worth approximately $4,000 from his checking account and cashed them," police said.
