New Lenox Firefighters Douse Vehicle Blaze

Bystanders attempted to help before firefighters arrived to put out the flames.

New Lenox firefighters doused a car fire Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured in the 2 p.m. fire. The vehicle's engine apparently ignited on Route 30 just east of the Interstate 80 interchange.

Bystanders attempted to put out the flames with extinguishers before firefighters arrived to finish the job.

Patch reader Ed Gorski witnessed the incident and said, "The vehicle on fire was on the north side of the road facing west. New Lenox’s finest were on the scene and it didn’t appear anyone was hurt. But traffic was backed up westbound about a quarter mile, with some vehicles making U-turns."
