New Lenox Firefighters Douse a Blaze in a One-Story Home—$100,000 Damage

A New Lenox family was forced out of their home when fire broke out about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday on Reagan Road.

New Lenox Fire Protection District and seven other assisting fire departments worked for about 40 minutes to douse the flames in a one-story home with a loft.

The fire started about 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at 13133 Reagan Road in unincorporated New Lenox. No one was injured in the blaze, said New Lenox Fire Protection Chief Jon Mead.

Firefighters struggled to with the loft area, where smoke was continuing to billow more than 90-minutes later.

The owners, Dan and Janet Remes and their two children, 21-year-old Ashley and 17-year-old Cody escaped injury. The family has not been able to find their dog, a jack russel.

Mead said the cause of the fire is yet undetermined. However, he estimates damage at around $100,000.

The biggest problem firefighters faced was the lack of hydrants. "The water had to be brought in with tankers," said Mead.

Firefighters from Mokena, Frankfort, Orland park, Homer Township, Manhattan and Troy showed up to assist with the blaze.
