Wake Up, Sleepy Head
March 2: Amy L. Zvonik, 35, of the 400 block of Chestnut Street in Hinsdale, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08., driving below the minimum speed, driving without a valid license and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a report. Police found Zvonik asleep behind the wheel of her white Dodge Durango at around 6 p.m. near the intersection of 156th Street and LaGrange Road.
The SUV was running and appeared to be in drive, according to the report. Zvonik reportedly did not wake immediately, despite the officer yelling and knocking loudly on the window. When she woke, she drove the SUV forward without speaking to the officer and, eventually, stopped in the Kohl’s parking lot. The officer could smell on odor of alcohol coming from her breath when she spoke. Zvonik was arrested after taking field sobriety tests. She also took a breath test. A search of the car turned up a pipe for smoking marijuana.
Zvonik is due in Bridgeview court on April 16.

Man Hides Steak in Pants
March 18: James S. Speights, 56, of the 2300 block of West 157th Street in Markham, was charged with retail theft and driving with a revoked license, according to a report. He is accused of taking four packages of steak, valued at $37.39, from Jewel-Osco, 5616 159th St.
Witnesses allege Speights grabbed the packages from the meat cooler, hid them in his pants and walked out of the grocery store.

Stealing "Lung Transplant Fund" Donation Jar
March 19: Wayne Slater, 20, of the 3900 block of River Road in Hazel Crest was charged with theft, and Tyler Skinner, 20, of the 18400 block of May in Homewood was charged with attempted theft, according to a report. Slater is accused of stealing a "Lung Transplant Fund" donation jar from 7-Eleven on Dixie Highway.
Police said Skinner knew Slater planned to steal the jar and had tried to conceal the license plate on his car prior to the theft. The amount of money in the jar was not disclosed by police.
They are due in a Markham court on April 12.

Naked Man Spotted in Massage Parlor Shower
Feb. 25: The Village of Orland Park is investigating a massage parlor after a naked man was found inside a shower room.
Police cited a 47-year-old Tinley Park man for having exposed buttocks inside 7 Day Spa, 14406 John Humphrey Dr., according to a report. Police also cited a 26-year-old Alsip woman for not having her massage therapy license.
An inspector saw a nude man with a woman in one of the business’ showers, according to the report. One woman was seen running from the spa.
The case is closed at the police level but the village’s Department of Development is investigating possible building code and license violations.
