Mom Hurt in Attack by Daughter over Cell Phone, Police Say

Emily Signore was arrested early Sunday morning after she allegedly beat her mother and threw a stool into a locked bedroom door, Joliet police said.

An 18-year-old woman who allegedly punched, kicked and beaned her mother with a metal bowl because the older woman wouldn't relinquish her cell phone so the daughter could call boyfriend was arrested Sunday morning, Joliet police said.

Emily J. Signore, of 1004 Saddle Ridge Drive, was charged with aggravated domestic battery and criminal damage to property following the violent fight that ended with the mother needing medical treatment at Silver Cross Medical Center in New Lenox, Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

Signore reportedly returned home at about 3:30 a.m. after having a fight with her boyfriend, Roechner said. Her mother was still awake, but refused to give her daughter her phone when she wanted to call her boyfriend, he said.

That prompted Signore to allegedly kick her mother, punch her in the face and throw a metal bowl, which cut the back of her mother's head, Roechner said.

The mother fled to a bedroom, locked the door and called police, he said. In the meantime, Signore grab a kitchen stool and threw it against the bedroom door, he said.

Police arrived to find the home's living room in disarray and a hole in the bedroom door. Signore was taken into custody and is being held in the Will County jail.
