May Crime Report: Walmart Employee Stole from Shopper

The New Lenox Police Department released its monthly crime statistics for May, and we break down some cases of interest.

New Lenox Police made five felony arrests in May, according to monthly statistics released last week by the department.

The monthly crime reports detail types of crime, how they compare to the previous year and months and other notable information. To see the full report for May, click on the PDF to the right of this article. Several cases of interest included:

  • During a routine traffic stop, police discovered that the driver was in possession of 130 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Eric Albarron, 23, of Lockport, was taken to Will County Jail and charges were preferred to the State Attorney's Office.
  • Police were called to the Kmart at 1500 W. Route 30 in response to a woman who was trying to get medicine using a fake prescription. Heather Spano, 26, of Joliet, was questioned by police, who discovered she also was in possession of marijuana and drug equipment. She was taken to Will County Jail and the charges were preferred to the State Attorney's Office.
  • Police arrested two men they say were involved in a string of electronics thefts from Walmart, 501 E. Route 30. James Ruggiero, 25, of Plainfield, was charged with four counts of retail theft, and his cousin Anthony Ruggiero, 26, of Romeoville, was charged with one count. Police say the two stole hundreds of dollars worth of computer adapters and hard drives.
  • Chi Deontre Bryant, 21, of Joliet, was charged with theft under $500 after admitting to taking cash from a shopper's purse at Walmart. Bryant, an employee at the store, told police he saw the woman set down her purse, at which point he removed the cash and hid the purse.
