Man Found Lying in Street Claimed 'Six Huge Biker Dudes' Beat Him Down

But New Lenox police decided 36-year-old Matthew Murphy was drunk and had attacked someone at the House of Hughes. He's charged with aggravated battery. No huge biker dudes were found.

A man late last week initially claimed he was the victim of an attack by "six huge biker dudes," according to New Lenox police.

The incident happened just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4. Officers on patrol spotted Matthew Murphy, 36, of  800 block of Meadowridge in New Lenox.

Murphy was lying in the westbound lane of the roadway in the 200 block of Route 30 near two bars: the House of Hughes and Pit Stop, New Lenox Police Deputy Chief Robert Pawlisz told Patch Tuesday morning.

"He appeared intoxicated," Pawlisz said. "While determining what he doing was lying in the roadway, Mr. Murphy told officers he was attacked by six huge biker dudes."

After speaking with patrons at both bars, officers determined Murphy had been at the House of Hughes, Pawlisz said. A victim who "had apparently been battered," was discovered behind the House of Hughes, the deputy chief added.

The victim identified Murphy as his attacker, Pawlisz said.

"[Authorities] checked out the victim and never located the six huge biker dudes," he added.

Murphy was taken to the Will County jail.
