Man Charged in Fatal DUI Makes First Pre-Trial Appearance

Kevin Krohn, 22, New Lenox, is accused of aggravated DUI for his role in connection with the death of a Manhattan man. Jake Stevens, 22, died when the car driven by Krohn went off the road.

Kevin Krohn, 22, of New Lenox, made his first pre-trial appearance Tuesday in Will County Circuit Court before Judge Edward Burmila, Jr. on charges of aggravated DUI in connection with the death of a Manhattan man.

The case against Krohn was continued until 9:30 am. Dec. 18 at the courthouse.

Stevens was a passenger in a car driven by Krohn, who told police he jerked the steering wheel and lost control of his car in the wee hours of the morning on Steger Road at 104th Avenue. When the car left the road, it reportedly struck an obstruction and minutes later burst into flames.

The Will County Coroner's Office was forced to use dental records to identify Stevens' charred remains.  Stevens was a 2008 Lincoln-Way Central High School graduate.

Immediately after the accident, Krohn was taken to Silver Cross Hospital and treated for a broken leg.

After an investigation of the crash, Will County Sheriff's police arrested Krohn on Sept. 7. He is suspected of drinking and driving.
