January Crime Report: Video Games and Booze Stolen; Man Charged With Sex Abuse of 15-Year-Old

New Lenox Police reported five felony arrests in January, according to the department's monthly report released last week. That included four arrests for felony retail theft and one for aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Late in January, police accused Robert G. Hughes, 54, of Divernon, Ill., of . Police say Hughes met the victim through a mutual friend in late December and provided her with a phone so he could call her. Hughes, who resides in Divernon (near Springfield), made trips to New Lenox to visit with the victim, police said.

Police also arrested and charged four people in two separate incidents with felony retail theft. In one incident, three people were charged in connection with a theft of video games, and in another a person was charged after trying to steal a grocery cart full of alcohol, police say. Overall, though, thefts dipped to eight in January 2011 compared to 30 in 2010.
