New Lenox Businesses Evacuated Due to Gas Leak (UPDATE)

Drivers are advised to avoid the intersection of Route 30 and Schoolhouse Road.

New Lenox police report that the repairs are done on the gas leak and the roads are back open.

Original story:

A gas line ruptured Thursday afternoon in the area of Route 30 and Schoolhouse Road, according to authorities.

A construction crew struck a gas main while performing road construction, according to New Lenox police. The nearby Walgreen’s location and Atrium Point were evacuated.

Route 30 is closed west of Wolf Road, according to a witness. Police said Anderson Road at Route 30 also is shut down.

Drivers are advised to take Joliet Highway as an alternate route.

Police did not know how long it will take to repair the leak.
