Drunken Indiana Woman Failed to Properly Secure Children While Driving Through New Lenox: Cops

The East Chicago woman was jailed after the Saturday morning traffic stop.

A drunken Indiana woman was driving around New Lenox with improperly secured children along for the ride, police said.

To top it off, Shretha Johnson, 31, of 3811 Deodar St. in East Chicago was driving on a suspended license and without insurance, police said.

Johnson was pulled over near the corner of Route 30 and Gougar Road about 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

An "officer observed a vehicle disobey a traffic control device," police said of pulling over Johnson.

"The officer conducted a stop and discovered that the driver, Johnson, had a suspended license, was under the influence of alcohol, and failed to have children in a proper child seat," police said.

Johnson was booked into the county jail on charges of driving under the influence, disobeying a traffic control device, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, the illegal transportation of alcohol, failing to restrain a child in a child safety seat, and driving while license suspended.
