Car Loses Control, Hits Railroad Signal

The driver was OK after his car hit a railroad crossing gate at Francis and Schoolhouse roads.

A driver is unharmed after his car hit a crossing gate at the railroad tracks near Francis and Schoolhouse roads in New Lenox on Tuesday morning.

The man was traveling westbound on Francis Road and struck a crossing gate just west of Schoolhouse Road in New Lenox, Metra Police said. The accident happened at about 9:45 a.m.

Officer German Salamanca was handling the accident for Metra, and he said the accident won't affect the train schedule because the tracks are only used for the Southwest Service Line.

"It only runs on peak hours," Salamanca said. "We might have to have a police officer or a flagger to walk the train through the crossing and direct traffic for the evening rush."

The driver was unharmed in the accident and was issued a ticket for failure to reduce speed.
