Candy Truck Catches Fire on I-80

New Lenox firefighters responded to a truck fire early Tuesday morning and fought the blaze for about five hours.

There were no injuries after a truck caught on fire early Tuesday morning in New Lenox, but a whole lot of candy was destroyed. 

Capt. Adam Riegal of the said the station was called at 1:13 a.m. Tuesday when a semi-trailer filled with candy caught fire. 

Riegal said it wasn't immediately known what the cause of the fire was. The truck was heading westbound on Interstate 80, just east of the Interstate 355 junction.

The driver of the truck wasn't injured and the fire didn't impact any other vehicles, expect for those that sat in traffic. Cars were backed up for much of the morning. Riegal said the Fire District fought the blaze until about 6:30 a.m.
