Bolingbrook Woman's Son Tried to Hire Jail Inmate to Kill Her: Cops

A Bolingbrook woman's imprisoned son tried hiring a man he met in jail to kill her, police said.

Scott Rokita, 42, was charged with solicitation of murder for hire in a criminal complaint filed Tuesday.

Rokita is already in custody at Downstate Vandalia Correctional Center. He is doing a three-year sentence for setting fire to the garage of his mother's Bolingbrook home in May 2012.

Rokita was scheduled to be released from prison Thursday, according to Department of Corrections records. His mother, Barbara Rokita secured a protective order against him in May in anticipation of her son returning to do her harm.

"I am afraid of Scott because of what he has done in the past," Barbara Rokita said. "He will be getting out of prison soon. Scott has destroyed my property. He has put sugar in my gas tank, slashed my tires, he (has) cut all the wires in the house, electric etc. I am afraid for my self and my family because I know what Scott is capable of."

At least one detective believes Scott Rokita was capable—and followed through with—trying to hire someone to kill his mother.

The criminal complaint signed by the detective identifies a 21-year-old Joliet man as the target of Scott Rokita's alleged murder-for-hire overtures. Scott Rokita met the man in the Will County jail. Rokita was in on arson and criiminal damage to property charges. The other man had a pending drug case.

The complaint says Scott Rokita made the offer between March 1 and Aug. 31, 2012.

The man Rokita allegedly approached about killing his mother is out of jail but still has felony drug cases pending.
