$9,000 of Merchandise Taken From New Lenox Verizon Store

Police are investigating the incident.

About $9,000 worth of merchandise, mostly cell phones, was taken from , a store that carries Verizon and Dish Network products.

At about 8:30 a.m. Dec. 31, a police officer noticed the store's door had been broken open. The forced entry occurred overnight after management had locked up, Deputy Chief Bob Pawlisz said.

A manager provided police with a list of merchandise taken and estimated it to be about $9,000 retail value.

"I can't tell if they cleaned out the store or were after specific items," Pawlisz said of the person or people who broke into The Cellular Connection, 1824 E. Route 30.

Pawlisz said he didn't think there was much evidence at the scene, but it was processed for fingerprints. There were no witnesses and no surveillance cameras in the store.

New Lenox police will use the list of merchandise to enter the products into a database, though, and any law enforcement agency that finds the products listed will know to contact local police.
