I recently watched a video interview with Ronnie Cummins from the Organic Consumers Association. He is the founder of the movement Millions Against Monsanto.
You my know the name from the pesticides you buy for your lawn, but if you have any interest in the future health of our generations, you need to know who Monsanto really is. According to Mr. Cummins, over the last 15 years the United States has become sort of a Monsanto nation.
We've got 435 acres of cultivated crops in the U.S. with 165 million acres of genetically engineered crops. The Grocery Manufacturers Association admits that probably 75 percent of all the processed foods that is non-organic processed foods in supermarkets today have genetically engineered ingredients in them. Most animals in the U.S., animal products, meat, dairy, eggs, unless they are organic, these animals are fed a steady diet of genetically engineered grains their whole life.

What does it mean to genetically engineer a food product? The bio-techs splice in some bacteria and viruses, and antibiotic resistant marker genes that humans have never eaten before, get a patent on this new seed or this new crop, and with the blessings of the Congress and White House, we are forced to eat yet another GE food.
These crops are not proven safe, in fact there is a lot of scientific evidence that indeed they are hazardous to humans, animals and the environment. The U.S. federal government refuses to listen and does not require they be properly tested or labeled.

Bills introduced to require labeling of GMO foods never get out of committee, much less come to a full vote. The European Union has laws that require GE foods be labeled. Even food served in restaurants must be labeled GMO. You wont find GE foods in grocery stores or even in fast food restaurants like McDonalds, simply because they know that people will not buy the food.
Yet the U.S. government has decided that the need to know is not present for the Americans. This is just another example of what it means when we allow the government to control our lives.
