Services Set for Rev. Raymond Ryan, 81

The member of Providence Catholic's Augustinian community died Monday, March 26.

sadly announced the death of the Rev. Raymond Ryan this week.

"You may remember Fr. Ryan walking through the hallways with a smile and a kind word for everyone," the Providence website stated. "He will be missed greatly."

Ryan, who lived with the Augustinian community at Providence Catholic, died Monday, March 26. He was 81.

According to his obituary on the Kurtz Memorial Chapel website, Ryan professed his vows in the Augustinian Order in 1950 and was ordained a priest in 1957. He was a provincial of the Midwest Augustinian Providence for three terms. Ryan also served as the longtime director of the Formation for Friars in training in Chicago, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri. 

From 1993 to 1998 he was an associate pastor at in New Lenox. According to Providence Catholic, he celebrated Friday Mass in the school's chapel and provided assistance for the Pastoral Team.

Ryan is survived by his brother Augustinian Friars, his sister Marilyn (the late Charles) Beck and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at St. Jude, 241 Second Ave. in New Lenox, followed by a prayer service at 8 p.m.

On Friday, visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. with the funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Augustinian plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.
