L-W Central Grad Dies in Scooter Accident

Matthew D. Zack, of Manhattan, died Sunday night after his motorized scooter crashed. Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

A 2009 graduate died Sunday evening after his motor scooter crashed in Manhattan, police said. 

Matthew D. Zack, of Manhattan, died Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was 22. 

According to the Will County Coroner's office, Mr. Zack was driving a motor scooter when he lost control and hit a tree in the 15000 block of Lakeview Drive in Manhattan. He wasn't wearing a helmet, according to police.

Manhattan Police and the Will County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident at about 5:23 p.m., and Mr. Zack was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated. County Coroner Patrick O'Neil said he's awaiting autopsy, toxicology and police reports.

Obituary information from Forsythe Funeral Home: 

Mr. Zack was born April 9, 1990, to parents David and Sharon. He is survived by his parents; a sister, Tracy; a maternal grandmother, Marilyn White; paternal grandparents, Dennis and JoAnn O'Keefe; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

A paternal grandfather, Joseph Zack; and a maternal grandfather, LWarence White, died earlier. 

He graduated from Lincoln-Way Central High School in 2009 and attended Joliet Junior College. He worked at Scotty's Lawn Care and was a cadet at the Manhattan Fire Department. 

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, at Forsythe Funeral Home, 507 S. State St. (Rt. 52) Manhattan, IL 60442. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 9.
